3. The subscription price seems high. How can I get a discount? |
For every person you sign on to our site for a minimum of three months, you will receive one month free. Other prizes, gift certificates and free months are awarded to winners of our various contests throughout the year.
Remember that not only are you subscribing to database space, you are also authorized to participate in critiques view a growing collection of professional articles, valuable tutorials and printing privileges which are unavailable to the casual viewer.
Our goal is to promote and build a community of artists. We are dependent on your subscriptions to keep the site running without distracting you with a lot of advertisements.
|
4. How can I change or cancel my subscription? |
You can change or cancel your subscription anytime.
To change your billing information or cancel subscription there is a secure form to fill out. The link to form is on the Artist/Acct Info page.
Cancellations must be made 5 (five) business days before the start of the next billing cycle.
The billing information is not kept on this site or online, so the billing department must be told directly. Important: Do not send an email with your billing changes or any information. That method is not as secure. Please, only use the secure form provided by a link on the Artist/Acct Info page.
Changes in subscription level can be made anytime and the monthly charges will be prorated from the date of the change.
Note: You can raise or lower your subscription level at any time, but lowering your subscription level requires that your record count used not exceed the new level. i.e. - if you are using 15 records and want to change your subscription level to 10, you must first delete 5 or more records.
|
5. Do I get money back if I cancel my subscription? |
No.
To avoid lengthy contracts, we set up a monthly payment system, with a one month minimum. Portions of months cannot be refunded; if you cancel be sure to do so within five (5) days in advance of our billing cycle so that you are not charged for another month.

6. How is this site different from other online sites for artists? |
ArtActiveOnline is the first affordable, self-serve online portfolio that includes supplemental features such as participating in critiques, printing your own mailing labels and image sheets, basic computer tutorials for managing your images, printable forms, framing tips from professional picture framers and a growing collection of art related articles. We have combined concepts from various types of online portfolio sites, art-oriented office software, and newsgroup forums to form a comprehensive professional and communication tool.
|
7. Does ArtActiveOnline get a commission when my artwork on the site sells? |
No.
ArtActiveOnline is not an online gallery, but an online portfolio. Your subscription covers the cost of using our database and having access to professional information unavailable to non-subscribers. You deal directly with your customers and galleries through your e-mail address. Our function is only to provide the computerized arena in which to manage your information and to give you opportunities to communicate with other artists.
|
8. What is the advantage of database information management? |
A database is a pool of information held by a server from which bits of data can be called up and presented in a predetermined format, instead of the bits being held on a single web page. The summoned data can then be changed by the authorized user. If you use an off-the-shelf (non-database) program to design a website, each page must be redesigned whenever information is added or removed. This is time consuming and costly if you hire a designer to do it for you.
The complicated process of creating a storage and display space for your information is taken care of by ArtActiveOnline. You just have to learn how to enter your information and upload your images. No page redesign is necessary because you are only updating information in the database.
|
9. I don’t know anything about using the web to promote my art. Do I have to know programming to use this site? |
The programming of the database is done by us, but you will need to know some basic terms and have some familiarity with digital photography, a typing keyboard, and a printer. Your subscription includes access to our tutorials which will teach you the necessary information and walk you through each step.
|
10. How long does it take for my information to show up on the internet and will search engines find my name? |
The ArtActiveOnline website is a live environment. Once your records are added and your images are uploaded they can be viewed instantly on the internet. You can change your information anytime online after signing on with your password.
All of ArtActiveOnline's pages are coded with key search words in an attempt to rank our site and your name at the top of search results lists. For a search engine to recognize your name, the time varies, but it takes around three weeks for the "web crawler" to pass over the site.
It is an advantage to both ArtActiveOnline and its subscribers to be seen as often as possible, so we make every attempt to do so, which includes posting your name and titles of your work.
|
11. What if I want my own website? |
For the price of your subscription your pages will be part of the general online portfolio, but you can request that ArtActiveOnline make a separate data driven website for you at additional cost. Please email us for more information.
|
12. What is the difference between my e-mail address and my public e-mail address? |
Your required e-mail address is for the use of ArtActiveOnline administration only. If you wish to be contacted by any members or viewers who visit the site you may activate the same e-mail address or a different one in the "Public E-Mail" field. This optional feature will create a "contact artist" button on your pages. If you do not fill in this field the "contact artist" button will not appear on your pages.
